Dental Implants in Huntington Beach, CA

Decreased self-confidence is a common complaint among patients experiencing severe tooth loss and decay. And that’s a lot of people: according to the American College of Prosthodontists, 120 million Americans are estimated to be missing at least one tooth, with 36 million missing all their teeth in one or both of their jaws. California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center cares about every patient’s oral health and overall well-being. We can design a treatment plan to improve your oral health and make it easier for you to smile again!

Dental implants offer a tooth replacement solution that is permanent as well as natural in look, feel, and function. They can replace a single tooth or an entire arch of teeth. Many patients are pleased to find out that they are a good candidate for a dental implant.

A dental implant is revolutionary because it replaces the entire tooth — including its root! The post, the implant, and the crown. There are three parts to a dental implant: the post, the abutment, and the crown. Made of medical-grade titanium, the dental implant post is surgically implanted into the jaw bone and will act as the root for the replacement tooth. Through a process called osseointegration, this post will fuse with the jaw bone and is responsible for the dental implant’s strong, secure, and permanent foundation. The crown is a custom-made prosthesis designed to blend in with the surrounding teeth for the most natural look possible. It sits on top of the dental implant post and is the visible part of the implant. Finally, the abutment piece is what connects the dental implant post to the crown. A single dental implant truly is a complete tooth replacement solution!

The doctors at California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center design customized tooth replacement treatment plans to create the best possible outcome for every patient. If you are considering a single dental implant, multiple implants, full-arch restoration, or another tooth replacement solution, we will work with you to create the treatment plan that is right for you. Drs. Park, Arcan, and Brewer are experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons who perform dental implant-based restorations in their safe and sterile practice in Huntington Beach, CA.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants offer a tooth replacement solution that is permanent, secure, and natural-looking. But did you know that they can improve your oral health too? No wonder dental implants are a popular choice! Other benefits of dental implants include

  • Permanent and secure replacement. Through a process called osseointegration, this post will fuse with the jaw bone and is responsible for the dental implant’s strong, secure, and permanent foundation. With the right care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
  • Discreet results. The crown is the visible part of the implant and is a custom-made prosthesis designed to blend in with the surrounding teeth for the most natural look possible.
  • Confidence boost. We are happy to hear so many of our patients tell us how much better they feel after receiving dental implants.
  • Eat the foods you love. Traditional tooth replacement options can make it difficult or impossible to eat certain foods. Dental implants offer the security and confidence to eat the foods you love again without the worry of the implant slipping or falling out.
  • Preserved bone health. Dental implants are considered a complete tooth replacement because they also replace the tooth’s root, the part of the tooth responsible for preserving jaw bone health.
  • Versatile. Whether you are missing a single tooth, multiple teeth, or even an entire arch of teeth, dental implants offer several solutions to tooth loss.
  • Most patients are dental implant candidates. Chances are good that if you are healthy enough to undergo a minor oral surgery procedure, such as a tooth extraction, you are healthy enough to receive a dental implant.

Drs. Park, Arcan, and Brewer are experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons and are experts when it comes to dental implant placement. If you are considering a tooth replacement solution, we encourage you to contact our office and schedule a consultation. One of our oral surgeons will provide a complete oral evaluation and work with you to design a treatment plan that works for you.

Dental Implant Process

Your dental implant treatment will begin with a consultation appointment. You will meet with one of our doctors, who will guide you through your optimal treatment plan. During this initial appointment, you can expect a complete oral evaluation, an overview of your treatment plan, anesthesia options to be discussed and selected, and diagnostic images to be taken. You will also schedule your dental implant procedure on this day and come back on another day for your surgery.

Feeling safe, comfortable, and informed is a high priority to us at California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center. We encourage you to ask questions and address any concerns you may have during this appointment.

On the day of your surgery, we will make sure you are completely at ease before we begin. First, we will administer the anesthesia that was selected during your consultation appointment. In general, the involves your oral surgeon surgically placing the dental implant post into the jaw bone. Your individual procedure may differ depending on your treatment plan, such as if an extraction is involved or if a bone graft is necessary as an additional procedure before placing a dental implant. Once the dental implant has been placed, the surgical site is closed and you can rest comfortably in our surgical suite to recover. Your designated driver will be able to take you home once the effects of the anesthesia have worn off. For most patients, a single dental implant placement takes between 30 and 60 minutes and around two to three hours for multiple implants.

Once your procedure is over and the implant post is in place, the healing process begins. Your individual healing time will depend on several factors, such as your overall health, the condition of your jaw bone, and your body’s natural healing abilities. Most patients are able to get back to their normal activities after a few days of rest, but your implant will fuse with your jaw bone over the next several weeks.

During this healing phase, you may receive a temporary crown to wear. This is a removable but fixed prosthesis. A restorative dentist will place your permanent, custom-made crown once your oral surgeon has determined that your implant has healed successfully.

The Value of Dental Implants

Dental implants achieve the look, feel, and function of natural teeth in a secure and permanent way, making them an ideal tooth replacement solution. At California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center, we are happy to offer dental implant placement as a permanent tooth replacement option for our patients.

Below are a few of the reasons many of our patients choose to invest in dental implants:

  • Lifelong tooth replacement. Unlike other tooth replacement solutions, your dental implants will not need to be replaced, saving you the inconvenience and cost of repeated treatments for the same missing teeth — in fact, dental implants can last a lifetime with good oral hygiene and regular dental appointments.
  • Protects oral health and jaw structure. Dental implants fuse with your jaw bone during healing time through the process of osseointegration. Because of this, dental implants act like natural tooth roots in your jaw, continuously stimulating the jaw bone when you chew, to keep bone loss at bay. Dental implants will also protect you from the dental shifting that is caused by missing teeth. When your teeth are properly aligned in the dental arch, you are less likely to require costly dental work later.
  • Enhanced quality of life. It’s impossible to estimate how much value our dental implant patients receive, from being able to enjoy the foods they love to speaking and smiling with confidence again. These everyday life enhancements add up to a happier and healthier patient. We see evidence of this at our practice every day!

Drs. Park, Aacan, and Brewer are experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons and are experts when it comes to dental implant placement. If you are considering dental implants, we encourage you to contact our office and schedule a consultation. One of our oral surgeons will provide a complete oral evaluation and work with you to design a treatment plan that works for you.

Denture Replacement With Dental Implants

If you wear dentures, our oral surgeons are excited to offer you a healthier, more long-term solution for missing teeth. Full-arch restoration is a life-changing procedure that uses implant posts to hold a fixed denture in one or both dental arches. With this type of stability, you regain full function of your smile and experience all the benefits of implant-based restoration, such as jaw bone loss prevention and preservation of facial structure.

Dental implants are an investment in your smile and with proper care, your fixed prosthesis can last a lifetime. We can also use implant-supported bridges or individual implants to replace partial dentures or traditional dental bridges. Dental Implant FAQ

What are my tooth replacement options?

California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center in Huntington Beach, CA, offers several options for tooth replacement to suit their patients’ needs and preferences. Our doctors will work with you to select the best tooth replacement option for you. See our page on Tooth Replacement Options to learn more.

Can my child receive dental implants?

A dental implant may be the right solution if a child is missing a permanent tooth due to injury, accident, or birth defect. In most cases, an oral surgeon will recommend that a child has finished growing before performing a dental implant procedure — around the age of 16 for girls and 18 for boys. Please call our office for a personalized consultation to discuss your child’s individual needs.

How long does it take to replace teeth using dental implants?

The process for most dental implants range from a few months to a year, but every treatment plan and every patient is truly unique. You may find that your dental implant process varies from other patients — and that’s OK! Your personal needs, lifestyle, condition, and quality of bone all factor into your dental implant treatment time.

Can a general dentist place my dental implant?

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon completes years of specialized education and training after dental school to be able to perform the full scope of oral surgery. Drs. Park, Arcan, and Brewer are experts when it comes to dental implant placement at their practice in Huntington Beach, CA. However, most dental implant treatments require a coordinated effort between your general dentist and oral surgeon. Your oral surgeon will surgically place the dental implant posts, and your dentist will place the permanent, custom-made crown to blend in with the surrounding teeth.

What if there is not enough bone in my jaw for a secure implant placement?

Patients who have inadequate bone can still become successful candidates for dental implant placement with the aid of a bone grafting procedure. Bone grafting restores or adds bone in the desired area. Please see our page on Bone & Soft Tissue Grafting for more information.

How do I care for my new dental implants?

While your dental implants are healing, your mouth requires a little extra care. However, after they have successfully healed and fused with the jaw bone, dental implants require basic care. Just brush and floss daily, and see your dentist for regular checkups — just like natural teeth!

What is the recovery like after dental implant placement?

For most patients, normal activities can resume within a few days of their dental implant placement procedure. Please contact our office if you have any questions about your healing. We are always here for you.

What will I use to chew with while my implants heal?

Before you receive your permanent prosthesis, you have a few options for a temporary replacement. A bridge or modified denture is a popular choice. As a non-removable option, temporary transitional crowns can be made.
