California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center offers the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery in a safe and sterile setting. As experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Drs. Park, Arcan, and Brewer are highly qualified to administer anesthesia to ensure comfort and safety throughout your procedure. The type of anesthesia you will be offered for your surgical procedure will be chosen in advance by you and your oral surgeon. Your health history, personal preference, and the type of surgery required will determine the appropriate anesthetic option.

We care about your comfort and safety before, during, and after your treatment. You will be closely monitored by your oral surgeon and surgical care team during your procedure.

Types of Anesthesia

California Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center offers several types of anesthesia, including

  • Local anesthesia. This type of anesthesia allows the patient to remain conscious without experiencing any pain associated with the procedure. The anesthetic is directly administered in and around the surgical site for localized numbness. It is commonly used with other anesthetic options, such as nitrous oxide.
  • Nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is inhaled through the mouth and nose to help the patient feel relaxed throughout the procedure. It helps the patient feel more at ease, especially if they are nervous about their procedure. Local anesthesia is often used in conjunction with nitrous oxide.
  • Intravenous (IV) sedation. A common option for wisdom teeth and dental implant patients, IV sedation allows the patient to enter a sleep-like state for the duration of the procedure. It is a quick-acting medicine because it is administered directly into a vein. Most patients who opt for IV sedation do not remember the procedure afterward, a common side effect.
  • Hospital or Surgery Center-Based General Anesthesia. Procedures that require general anesthesia in a surgery center or hospital are usually more complex and extensive in nature. A patient is completely unconscious under general anesthesia. An anesthesiologist will administer this type of anesthesia.
